Keep Moving (Andrew Stockdale album)
Hey guys! Here drop your thoughts about Stockdale's solo album (or Wolfmother's third, however you see it) I remember first getting into Wolfmother's music when I heard Long Way To Go music video on YouTube when it just came out. I'm only 19 by the way, so would have been a bit too young when debut and Cosmic Egg came out XD I personally think that the album is underrated. It's not really on YouTube as Universal took down the music video of LWTG and other songs from the album. I don't think people gave it a good chance and were too quick to dismiss. I agree the second part of the album isn't particularly impressive. But there are plenty of stand out tracks. Perhaps too long for a good all-round record. But I love the summery feel to the album. I sometimes imagine the band playing this on the beaches of Byron Bay when I listen to it. And it's got a cool theme of traveling and visiting new places in the summer. In terms of sound, it was more bluesy which payed off (in my opinion) lots of harmonica and keyboards added in tracks thanks to the versatile multi-instrumentalist Elliot Hammond. Lots of drummers contributed, Hamish Rosser was the most inspiring in my opinion- I like his style. Surprisingly, the album was produced by Mr Stockdale- no complaints on this record as opposed to New Crown.
Long Way To Go - Simple but sharp, memorable riff drives the song. Nice breakdown towards the end where Ian plays keys and bass at the same time (if you watch live version of the track on YouTube you'll see) Top track of the album.
Keep Moving - song driven by the bassline from Peres while Stockdale sings the verses. Chorus gets heavier instrumentally. Very good track also.
Somebody's Calling - co-written with Elliot Hammond. Not a bad song but sounds suspiciously similar to 'Hold Up' by the Raconteurs.
There's a song called 'Vicarious' - don't get this confused with 'Victorious'
Year of the Dragon - lyrics include plenty of rhyming- not the best but still a bit catchy. Can be a bit repetitive with the riff but still a decent song.
Meridian - seems to be a very popular song from this record. Co-written with Ian. Good lyrics and you could label it 'heavy metal' thanks to the instrumentals and funny tuning of the guitars. Long guitar solo too.
Suitcase (One More Time) - a really good psychedelic sounding acoustic track. Continues on with the traveling theme from the album. High pitched vocals but yet quiet and soft. Rosser provides a good drum groove.
It Occurred To Me - probably my favourite off the album. Yet its last on the record and cut off some other versions of the album. Cool drums fills from Rosser during the chorus. Awesome lyrics and vocals, breakthrough for all instruments, guitar solo, just before a harmonica solo. Very varied and creative.
