Kieran's Top New Bands - You Wolfmother fans could be in for a treat!
Here are a list of bands that I like and listen to regularly besides from Wolfmother. Many of which have a heavy 70s rock / 60s blues influence. All still going today and formed in the last few years.
Avatarium - Swedish doom metal/hard rock band consisting of a slightly eccentric female singer. Also consisting of well-known metal bassist Leif Edling. Some heavy and dark stuff to be expected when listening to this band. Signed to the metal record label Nuclear Blast along with Blues Pills, The Vintage Caravan and Kadavar. (Top Track)
Blues Pills - Another Swedish based band consisting of Elin Larsson; fantastic female singer with a bit of a soul voice, French teenage guitarist Dorian Sorriaux, ex Truckfighters drummer Andre Kvarnström and former Radio Moscow bassist and co-songwritter of the band Zach Anderson- the American. Anderson's half brother Cory Berry also used to play drums in the band at the start. Their debut eponymous album received fantastic reception and is one of my favourite albums of all time. In this you'll hear hard rock classics in High Class Woman and Devil Man, the calm and reflective Little Sun and River and lots of Blues Rock tracks take the total length of the record over 40 minutes. Second album arriving in early 2016. (Ain't No Change)
Kadavar - This German trio broke into the spotlight in 2012 with their very successful self-titled debut album. This followed by Abra Kadavar in 2013 and Berlin released August last year. Christoph Bartelt, aka Tiger, is an energetic cymbal smashing drummer that truly makes the band with his production abilities as well as his instrumentals. The drummer did a collaboration with Andrew Stockdale last year- the track Wedding is yet to be released. The classic Kadavar sound is a little repetitive- same old Black Sabbath, Sir Lorde Baltimore sounding hits, but it does drive you into the more dirty, raw and dark side of rock and metal. (Debut Masterpiece)
The Vintage Caravan - An Icelandic hard rock trio with lots of psychedelic and progressive influences in their music. You could label them retro after listening to the music and then be caught by the surprise that they are only 21 years old. If you watch their interviews or Expand Your Mind on YouTube you'll find out the wacky and hilarious sense of humor that they share. The band are close to Blues Pills as good friends and have toured with them throughout 2014. Voyage and Arrival being their latest albums with lots of heavy psychedelic/progressive tracks. (Second Album Success)
Three Seasons - Another blimmin' Swedish band this time a power trio with EPs and LPs under their name since their forming in 2009. A retro sound of psychedelic, blues, folk and jazz all mixed with typical guitar riffs and solos. Grow is an all-round top album- listen to songs like the riffy Deep Purple sounding Feel Alive and organ filled Moving On. (Top Track - Feel Alive)
Radio Moscow - Some more psychedelic bluesy rock this time coming from Iowa in the states. Multi-instrumentalist and front-man Parker Griggs has experienced many line-up changes but has finally settled with Anthony Meier and Paul Marrone. With five studio albums to their name, Brain Cycles (2009) and Magical Dirt (2014) are your best bet if you fancy diggin' their vintage material. (Magical Dirt - 2014)
RavenEye -Only formed in 2014, this hard rock trio will give you the impression that they have been around for years which is probably because what they have achieved in such an incredibly short period. Described by the media as British rock’s hottest property, this bold statement may be taken more seriously when you consider that Slash is a big fan of the band. The Gun’s and Roses guitarist is not only a fan but was actually supported by them twice! Initially playing the blues, front-man and lead guitarist Oli Brown has changed direction with the band’s latest EP, Breaking Out, into a more traditional hard rock/grunge sound. (Debut EP - Breaking Out)
Zodiac - This German 4 piece blast out heavy blues rock with lots of riffs and instrumental breakdowns. The debut album A Bit of Devil being their best effort with the truly incredible Carnival and the catchy titled track of the album. 2016 holds lots of festivals and a fourth album for the band. (A Bit Of Devil)
